Gold-Filled Vs. Gold Plated

Here at Rightly Royce, we proudly use 14K gold-filled pieces for our lovely custom pieces! However, we understand that many people actually don’t know the difference between “gold-filled” and “gold-plated”, which is why we are here to help!

Gold-Filled

This is a USA industry standard that legally requires 1/20th of pure gold by weight. It involves pressure bonding multiple layers of solid 14k gold with extreme heat over a core of high quality jewelers brass resulting in a durable, quality real goal product. This is an option that is less-pricey, in comparison to solid gold, but is still beautiful and will last you a long time!

Gold-Plated

The process of gold plating is one where a minuscule layer of gold is applied over a base metal (usually this is brass). In contrast to gold-filled, the amount of real gold that is used in a gold-plated piece is actually so tiny that it's technically considered unmeasurable (less than .05%). It is common for gold-plated jewelry to wear away quickly and typically will not last as long as a gold-filled piece.
